The microbial community is relatively unexplored for their biosynthesis machinery for the production of chalcogenide QDs. Biological systems have the capacity to initiate the synthesis of these nanoclusters using the enzymes in their metabolic pathways at ambient temperature, pressure and neutral pH. This area of nanotechnology offers future scope for exploring newer biosynthetic sources and the optimization of production conditions for the commercialization of QD to apply them in solar power harnessing and biosensing.
